Welcome to My Calligraphy World

A Fusion of Tradition and Innovation,

For centuries, Iranian calligraphy has echoed the soul of Persian poetry and literature.

Rooted in spirituality and elegance, this timeless art form expresses the deepest human emotions, where traditional techniques are masterfully blended with contemporary creativity.

The Evolution of an Enduring Art, From gold embellished textiles to intricate wood inlays and fine metalwork, calligraphy has long been a cornerstone of Iranian artistic heritage.

Over time, it has adapted to cultural changes and historical shifts, evolving in form while preserving its essence.

My Artistic Vision

With a deep passion for classical Persian calligraphy and a background in graphic design, I have developed an innovative approach that merges rich tradition with modern aesthetics.

My signature technique involves painting on canvas using natural clay sourced from the foothills of the Alborz mountains, an ancient material re-imagined through a contemporary lens.

This unique medium allows me to present Iranian calligraphy in a new light: tactile, earthy, and profoundly rooted in cultural identity.

Inspired by Nature, Driven by Emotion, Each piece I create is inspired by the beauty of nature and the complexity of human emotion.

My works tell stories, sometimes deeply personal, sometimes universal, all crafted with care, intention, and emotional depth.

I frequently experiment with unconventional materials and methods, constantly exploring the evolving boundaries of calligraphy as a visual language.

The Story of My " Calligraphy Arts "

Written by : Mrs. Hermine Arnold

Shima Kaboli brings traditional Persian calligraphy to life in a modern artistic light, infusing it with new, creative forms. She experiments with innovative techniques, plays with unconventional materials, and explores the many possibilities of using calligraphy as a graphic element in art.

On her fascinating artistic journey, Shima has developed a unique and distinctive technique: she paints with native clay from the foothills of the Alborz Mountains on canvas, manifesting stories and poetry with the oldest decorative material crafted by humans, in a contemporary aesthetic reinterpretation.

    Surrounded by Art :

Shima was born into an artistic family that introduced her to the beauty of the world through all the senses. Her father, a master of Persian calligraphy and a professor at several art universities in Iran, shaped her early artistic development. From a young age, her parents specifically nurtured Shima's talents and took her to art classes. She loved feeling the colors and materials with her hands and absorbing them. Even then, she dreamed of becoming a significant and well-known artist.

    Artistic Education :

Shima Kaboli studied at the Art School, followed by a Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design and a Master’s degree in the Conservation and Restoration of Historical and Cultural Monuments at Tehran University of Art. After receiving a calligraphy master certification from the Iranian Calligraphers’ Association, Shima taught for several years at the Sama-e-Ghalam Cultural Institute.

    The Art of Calligraphy :

Iranian calligraphy has reflected the soul of Persian poetry for centuries. It blends spirituality and elegance by combining traditional techniques with contemporary creativity, expressing the deepest human emotions. From gold-embellished textiles to wood inlays and metalwork, calligraphy is a central element of Iranian heritage that has adapted to cultural and historical changes, yet has always preserved its essence.

    Shima’s Art :

In her works, Shima uses clay from her homeland, which she brings in large quantities to Austria. Her credo is to present her artworks as "the scent of Iran." The earth of her homeland forms the canvas on which she writes loving stories with calligraphy ink and the clay of Iran. Each piece in this collection is a tribute to her homeland and the timeless elegance of Persian calligraphy.

Her exquisite works feature ceramic elements, with patterns she has personally developed from traditional motifs and symbols of ancient textiles or rare pieces more than 100 years old.

    Art as a Journey :

Shima Kaboli: “With every new creation, I strive to dive deeper, create broader connections, and inspire those who believe in the power of visual storytelling.”

The Story of My " Patchwork Arts "

Written by : Mrs. Hermine Arnold

Shima Kaboli breathes new life into old and traditional fabrics in the light of modern art, combining them with innovative and creative forms.

Using experimental techniques and unconventional materials, she explores the diverse possibilities of translating ancient patterns and decorations into the language of contemporary art.

In her fascinating artistic journey, Shima has developed a distinctive and unique form of expression: she “paints” with decorative fragments of historical fabrics, creating striking visual narratives through contemporary aesthetic interpretation.

Under the spell of Art :

Shima was born into an artistic family that immersed her in the beauty of the world with all her senses from an early age. Her father, a master of Persian calligraphy and professor at several art universities in Iran, had a decisive influence on her early artistic development.

From an early age, her parents actively encouraged Shima’s special talents and enabled her to attend art classes.

The tactile nature of materials and colors has always fascinated her - so much so that even as a child, she dreamed of becoming a major and well-known artist.

        Art Education :

Shima Kaboli studied at the Faculty of Art and received her BA in Graphic Design and her MA in Conservation and Restoration of Historical and Cultural Objects and Monuments from Tehran University of Art.

Combining her knowledge of conservation science with painting and graphics, she developed a unique and new form of art.

        Shima's Art :

Her "Grandma's Forty Pieces" collection is created using drawing and collage techniques from pieces and fibers of antique handmade fabrics - an important part of Iran's cultural heritage.

These works reflect cultural and historical changes while authentically preserving their essence and identity.

They revive childhood memories of their grandparents’ home and garden in their homeland, evoking the love stories of those days, from golden autumn afternoons to crisp, cold winter nights.

Each work in this collection is a tribute to their homeland and the timeless elegance of Iranian art.

Their artworks embody memories and stories  of fabrics that may have once been part of festive attire, exquisite tablecloths or decorative fabrics in their grandmother’s home and thus bring to life happy moments of the past.

        Art as a Journey :

        Shima Kaboli:

“With each new work, I strive to delve deeper, create broader connections and inspire those who believe in the power of visual storytelling. Through my art, I aim to create meaningful connections with people of all languages and cultures.”
